Question

Removing a particular colour

I'm trying to adjust the colours in an image to look like the light was in a different colour. E.g., if the light were orange, then there shouldn't be any blues in the image because there is no blue light to reflect and any blue object should appear black. I'm not sure how to do this: If I adjust levels and set blue to 0, then blue objects still appear fairly bright, but just in the remaining colours. Further, if I wanted to set another colour to black (like purple), I'm not sure how I would adjust both red and blue levels to achieve this effect.

I would simulate that with a combination of three adjustment layers

First a black and white adjustment layer to turn down any colours that should not be showing under the coloured light. So for orange light turn down all except red and yellow, which should be turned up :

Next a curve to bring down the whites and make them grey - essential or next step won't work

Finally a solid colour adjustment layer in the colour of your light and set to blending mode "Color"

We really need to see an example to recommend the best way to do this. Sounds like it's not going to be easy.
