Question

Removing a Subject From an Image/Beginner

Hello All...

I'm farily new with PS. I'm about to update mine to 22.4.2 soon (that's if it's not updated). Nevertheless, I've noticed that I learn better when I record my issues with PS.

Questions

Why do I get error messages "sometimes" when I try to remove a subject from an image. Is it because I have to always make sure that my orignal layer is selected before I make any changes? You know how you make a change on an image, and a new layer comes up. Well, if I leave my selection on that new layer, I can't make further changes. I need to always make sure my selected layer is the actual image. Does anyone know what I'm talking about. The video will show this.

What other forms of removing subjects from images are there? I only know the lasso tool and the patch tool. The video will show this. However, there has to be a better way or a different way of doing this.

Thanks, everyone, for your patience with me. It's the only way I can learn to tell you the truth. I want to perfect this section of PS.

You can only edit existing pixels. If you are selected on a blank layer it will error.

You have a number of blank "Layer 0" layers that are not necessary.

You should make your selection on the background/original layer, then add a layer mask to hide the background.

This tutorial goes over how to remove and replace a background:
