Question

Replacing a graphic in PS

I have within a document in Photoshop, an image of a Beach Towel for example. I have it sized to what I require. I now want to add three more images, the same size. I thought if I selected the image and placed embedded,another image,  it would replace the original image with my replacement but instead, it ignores that I had an image selected and places the new image as another image.

InDesign allows me to copy the original image, paste the image and then with the second image selected, I can place a new image into the second image and the image size remains as it was.

My explanation may not be clear but I am hoping you get the jist of my issue. 🙂

In Photoshop, things operate differently. I'm not certain I grasp your request. Have you attempted to use the Frame Tool along with the Replace Contents option?

@Heirloom Bob

Place > Embedded creates a SO on a new layer.

See if this will work for you:

  • Open the second file and Copy
  • Make the selection in the beach towel image as you did before
  • Choose Edit > Paste Into instead of Paste

This will create a new layer with a layer mask. If the chain link in between them is selected, the image and mask will move/scale together. If you unlink them and select the image (not the mask), you can scale, rotate, and move the image if necessary.

Your original beach towel image will still be there.
