Resizing without losing resolution

Hello, I'm currently working on a project for school. I'm trying to move an Image I've selected and masked and added a layer mask to, onto another document but each time I click and drag, It turns super pixilated or opens on the document way bigger than I want. I have the same problem when I try to drag any photo from my desktop into photoshop and I don't know why.

Came here to say what @Nancy OShea said! I made some screenshots to show you why image size matters:

Thank you for going out of your way to show me photos! I talked with someone live. They apparently did some prefrence setting changes and it worked!

Ideally your document and image resolution (PPI) should be the same.

And maginification should be set to 100%.

Go to Image > Image Size.

What is the height, width and resolution of your document?

Do the same with your image?
