Question

Resolution of the stamp funktion in 3D

Hi Folks

I have a Problem and I do not know if Photoshop is the right programm to help me....

I have imported an 3D Model (OBJ) in Photoshop (this has already an UV with cuts in it). Both, the 3D modell and the texture, has the same resolution (this resolution ist very very high, becaus we use this data later for lasergraining). I would like to use the stamp funktion in the drawing system "Projektion" to stamp over the cuts.

My problem is, that the retouching in the area of the cut, is still visible in the 2D texture, because the lower resolution of the 3D is tranfered to the 2D. (no Idea why in 3D is lower than in 2D, both has been adjusted to the same resolution).

Is there any solution?

Thanks Arthur

When you say the 3D model has "high resolution" and that the material and the model have the "same resolution" it doesn't make sense. The 3D mesh has vertices not pixels, and the 2D texture has pixels not vertices. So resolution of the two is a  different entity. Does the mesh have sufficient vertices?  A common "trick" when making models for use in games for example is to use a low- polygon mesh but give the impression of higher level of detail by using a material and putting the high resolution detail in a normal map/bump map. This allows the shader to simulate the effect of surface detail when rendering but keeps the mesh low poly and thereby saves memory and makes drawing faster.

If the mesh is low poly then, unfortunately, subdividing the actual mesh is not something you can do in Photoshop. You would need to turn to a 3D application for that.

    Hello Dave

    thanks for you support!

If I open a 3D-Model with a texture I can  adjust the resolution in the 3D-Modell and in the 2D-Texture. (I do not speak of the count of the vertices and I do not know what is the resolution in the 3D-Model for....)

My 2D-Texture is of high resolution (1270dpi, which we can not change because of our lasergraining process). The 3D-Model did not show this resolution, it shows much less. If I now use the stmap fuktion the in the drawign system "Projektion", this low resolution is used for the stamp tool. This low resolution is then also transfered in the 2D-texture, which is then unserviceable for me.

Did I express myself more clearly?

Is there the posibility to stamp in the 3D-Modell in the same resolution as in the 2D-Texture?

    Kind regards

    Arthur
