Return Line Break Not Working in Photoshop - Default Leading Zero

Question

Attempting to add text to image in Photoshop version Adobe Photoshop Version: 24.4.1 20230418.r.449 53a6c60 x64.  Cursor jumps back to center of text and becomes unresponsive. Arrow keys don't work either. For some reason the leading is automatically setting to 0 but changing makes no difference on existing text. File type psd. When pasting plain text it becomes a jumbled mess stacked in a pile with no line break. The solution appears be setting an appropriate setting for leading prior to pasting.
