Rigging a 2D image in Photoshop for Adobe Character Animator

Hi! I was wonder if anyone had a step by step tutorial for rigging (I believe that's the right term) a 2D image in Photoshop.

I have a single layer jpg drawing that I want to animate for my daughter. in Character Animator. I understand layers have to be created to isolate the various body parts, but what is the best way to do this in Photoshop 2020.

Anyone that has a step by step guide or link to a tutorial would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

there are lots of tutorials for it and some of them are worth the effort

try this one https://graphicmama.com/blog/create-adobe-character-animator-puppet-photoshop/

p.s, understand the results you get depend on how good the image is that you started with which is why most animators use illustrator [its designed to make cartoon art]

IMO, you should create puppets in Illustrator.  See tutorial below.

Thank you, Nancy. This is very helpful. But what if you want to turn an existing piece of artwork (a jpg or png) into a puppet. Is there a tutorial for that?

Thanks again!
