Once I open an image and try to select the ruler tool with ctrl+r or usiung the view menu, my screen stops responding and the background layer just doubles. I'd be thankful if anyone can help. Here's a picture of what happens to the screen.

Try enabling this option in preferences and restarting Photoshop to see if it helps

If your GPU is an older GPU, that workaround will work for a short time, but you should look into upgraded the GPU if it's over 7 years old. If it's a more capable, modern GPU, always try installing new drivers. Let me know if you think your GPU should be working better. Send along System Info from Photoshop and it can help troubleshooting.

My GPU is Nvidia GeForce GTX 16500 TI, however, I had problems with the drivers because I didn't have the suitable one to open Illustrator but I managed to download the right ones. And I checked my GPU compatibility and it's all good. I haven't had any problems since I changed my settings in preferences. Here's the system info though
