Save and Save As

Not too long ago, but about two updates ago, I started having this problem with the save and save as button... I am afraid that I have deleted something important as far as software. I have to reset my preferences (yes, I have apple product) so after I reset them sometimes it works for ONE save, then it goes back to not working. It doesn't work, I even tried installing the older version again. I had a bad feeling about updating, I don't want to believe PS runs on feelings. Someone tell me how to fix this.
