Save for Web is increasing my file size with the new Photoshop version

My original file is 5051 × 3993 pixels 1,8MB.

Last year I converted that PNG to 1710 × 1352 px so the final size was 273 KB.

Today I tried doing the same with the lastest version of Photoshop and it weights 918KB! I did this experiment because I noticed that Save for web is not really doing the trick anymore.

Do both last year’s and this year’s PNG exports use the same Save for Web settings for bit depth (PNG-8 or PNG-24) and transparency? Changing either of those can have a large effect on file size.

You can also try File > Export > Export As and see if the PNG export there does any better.

Hi Conrad! Yes, I ended up exporting the photos with the "Export As" option because it worked better.

Regarding PNG-8 and PNG-24, I am pretty sure I used 24 in the past.

I guess I will keep using export as from now on! Thanks
