Hello! I'm making an 4x4 meters outside advertisiment design.

Place where i gonna sent my design to print wants PDF but when i go export as or save as there is no option to save PDF (only JPG or PSB, not even pdf). When i make design resolution to 2x2 meters then i see option to save PDF but as i said it needs to be 4x4 meters. From somewhere i read that maximum is 30 000 pixels to save pdf but mine is not even close. What can i do?

You don't need such a high resolution for images that are viewed from a distance - with a book or magazine, images should be around 300PPI, for this purpose (a poster) try around 100PPI.

For the output to PDF, get a spec from your poster printer, but if you can't get it, choose PDF/X-4.

Thank you for answer! I already figured it out that it does not need to be 300PPI but with 100PPI i also could not save as pdf, so i changed size of image from 4x4meters to 2x2meters. I'm good at design but not good at knowledge of formats / export / printing. Is it okay if i make big size designs smaller in future ? Does the printing company make it to normal size? Or how professionals work with formats (i have read that for big posters they use only illustrator not photoshop). Thank you for help.

There's a rule of thumb for pixel-based images, and it's very simple:

A good high-resolution file from a modern camera will work for anything. By that I mean 7000 - 8000 pixels long side. Magazine spread, poster, billboard, anything. You don't need more pixels for bigger formats, that's a myth.

The bigger it is, the further back you'll go so that the eye can take it all in. The optical, effective resolution stays the same. Yes, maybe you can go up and stick your nose into it, but the thing is - it's uncomfortable. You'll want to step back.

So ppi goes down. There's a formula, can't remember it, but someone else probably does. I think 100ppi is still overkill for this. 50 - 70 should be more than enough.

Yes, vector artwork can be scaled indefinitely. Pixels can't.

For some very special purposes you might want more pixels. But usually you don't need it.
