Save vs Save As

When do you use Save vs Save As and what is the difference?

    The first time you Save you name the file, it's then greyed out until you make a change to the image , when you can Save it again subsequently and it will overwrite the previous saved image. You may want to save a copy of that image with a different name so you can use Save As and rename the image .

    Yes Derek is correct. Save is saving the current file. Save As can create a new file with a new name as well as choose a new format. When I open a JPEG, I want to save it as a PSD file so I choose Save As so I can change the format.

    I do composite images. So if I open a new document and move a few images to the new document, after I finish with the composite do I Save or Save As.

    If I Save As I believe I have to sync my LR folder in order to bring in the Save As image.

    If you 'Open' one of the images from Lightroom by [Edit-In], edit the composite, then a "Save" will show your composite back in Lightroom using the filename of that image (+Edit).

    If you select multiple images in the Lightroom Catalog and [Edit In Photoshop as Layers] , edit the composite, then a "Save" returns the composite back to Lightroom with the Filename of the 'Most Selected' image (+Edit) from Lightroom.

    Any "Save As" function will not return an image to Lightroom- you would have to Import or Synchronize Folder.
