Question

saving a sequence in actions

Hi I was wondering if anyone can help with my problem!! I am very new to actions.

I have a large image that I have used guides to chop into many pieces but I need to be able to show where each piece is on the main picture. I have a layer with a see through window showing the image being it.

I tried using an action to move the window and save the image at each point but when it goes onto the next row it saves over the first row saves!

Is there any easier way to achieve this or a way to get the actions to save in a sequence?

Hello Gareth,

This does not look like a task for actions, but better suited for layer comps.  make a layer comp for each image you need. Then use file >> Export >> Layer comps to files.

Most of the work wil be naming the layer comps. I suggest short names like 1,2,3,4 for each layer comp. If the file is named "Starrysky.psd" then your final files names wil be "Starrysky_1.jpg" , " Starrysky_2.jpg", etc.

Once you learn layer comps you will save much time as edit are just one command to update al files.

If you did not want the entire starry sku, but cropped to a single rectangle, look into slices. From yoru post I assume you want the entire starrysky ghosted, and one rectangle at full opacity, and a separate image for each reactangle being unghosted.
