Saving Large Files in PS CC

I am having trouble with the file handling in PS. When I tried to save it it said the that file was larger than 2 gigs and was not able to save it. When I looked at the actual file size it wasn't even a gig. I have gone to File Handling in Preferences, but I don't have an option that says Enable Large Document Format. Does anyone have a solution, other than just making a smaller file and less layers? Or is that my only option?

You would go to File > Save or File > Save As... and choose "Large Document Format" aka .psb from the dropdown file format selection menu.

This has not helped me.  I get the same error when I try to save as .psb.  Do you have any other recommendations?

I need the file size to remain 300 dpi 43"x 52" in layers.
