Screen displays blank color of black or green. Won't open pictures

Earlier today it was working fine, but now it will not display any of my photos. It gave me a black screen.

I updated to the latest date and it now will only give me a green screen.

No pictures.

That worked. I never went into that area of preferences before, but at least it seems to have worked. thank you again.
