Search bar refuses to allow new entry, can't erase or type new entry, keeps refreshing with last

Question

PS 22.2 (because 22.3 and 22.3.1 continually freeze and abend)

Clicked on Help tab, entered 'color hex code', got a response but wanted to try another search argument. Tried erase search argument and it immediately refreshed 'color picker'. Highlited and tried to type over, same instant refresh. Nothing works. Closed help and re-selected, comes up with same argument. I assume I can probably close PS and re-start and it will go away but wanted to see if others have seen this phenomenom and maybe knew a work around.

Try resetting the tools and/or preferences.
To restore preferences quickly using a keyboard shortcut:

Press and hold Alt+Control+Shift (Windows) or Option+Command+Shift (Mac OS) as you start Photoshop. You are prompted to delete the current settings. The new preferences files are created the next time you start Photoshop.
Note: Using the keyboard shortcut, preference files for custom shortcuts, workspaces, and color settings will also be reset to default.
