I have a 15"macbook pro, 16gb ram, 2.7 icore7. Select and mask has never worked on my computer. I have never been able to use it without the computer locking up. Any suggestions on how to fix this?  It has been 3 years that I have gone without this because there are work arounds but I still would like it to work! everything elso on PS seems fine. What am I missing in order to fix this? Anyone else with this problem?

What Photoshop version? What MacOS version?

Select and Mask runs in OpenCL, a component in the video driver. On Windows you can update or roll back the driver if it isn't working properly - in MacOS, the video driver is an integral part of the operating system. So it's possible you need to wait for a MacOS update.

In the meantime, try to reset Photoshop preferences just in case it's some pieces that fail to connect. If it hasn't worked over several OS updates, something odd is going on. Perhaps you have something else installed that interferes.

Hi Sarah,

Sorry to hear that the Select and Mask feature has never worked for you, could you please let us know the version of Photoshop and the macOS version you're working with?

Could you please try deselecting "Use Graphics Processor" located in Photoshop's Preferences > Performance, then relaunch Photoshop and let us know if it helps?

Regards,
Sahil

Yes I read that in the history of this problem. I did deselect it and it better but not good. I payed more for that graphics card! IOS Mojave 10.14.6, PS CC 2020.
