Select and Mask Photoshop cc 2018

I am using Select and Mask in photoshop cc 2018 with my Wacom Bamboo.  It is freezing the software to the point where it is useless.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled and the problem keeps coming back.  I have no idea what to do to make this work.

    A corrupt Preferences file can cause problems. Resetting to factory defaults may help. No guarantee of course but worth a try.

    (Uninstalling does not touch this file thus won't help)
