Question

Select color range greyed out

Hi,

I use Photoshop 2024 25.3.1 on an M1 iMac running Ventura 13.5.1

Select color range is greyed out with one particular photo, the rest of the shots in the series is fine and does allow selection of color range. I see no difference in the essential properties of the photo.

(Edit in Quickmask is not selected.)

Has anyone had this occur, and/or know the solution?

Hello and thanks Sameer,

I think I figured it out. I must have accidentally opened the image in Photoshop (from Camera Raw) in HDR mode. When 'HDR' is checked, I think Photoshop opens the image in 32 bits mode. Is that right? (Might be something that I can adjust in Preferences.) When opened in 32 bits color range doesn't work.

Hey, @gertw90928544. Welcome to the Photoshop Community. I'll need more info to help you figure this out.

Please share a screenshot of the document with the properties & layers panel visible.

One of the first things you can check is whether the specific image is 32-bit. Color Range isn't yet supported for 32-bit documents.

You can check this thread for other advice that can help: https://adobe.ly/3RHfk4n

Let me know how it goes. Thanks!
