Question

selection tools

Since the latest update all my selection tools seem to have taken on a life of their own. They are extremely sensitive, far more so than ever before. Whilst making a selection the marching ants will suddenly join up and therefore complete a selection well before I have reached the point at which I intend closing the selection. It happens time and again. It is not me being heavy handed and happens with all the selection tools and has only started happening since the last update. Happens with the mouse and the Wacom. It is frustrating as I then have to re-start the selection procedure over again and again.

Hi there,

We are sorry about the experience with Photoshop.

You can add to the selection you are creating you can press and hold the shift key and continue expanding your selecting. For the issue with the selection tools, you can try to reset the preferences of Photoshop to check if that helps. You can check the details here: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/photoshop/using/preferences.html

You may want to back up your actions, brushes, etc. before you reset the preferences to default. Please check: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/photoshop/using/preset-migration.html

Regards,

Nikunj

Which Selection Tools are you ralking about? Because what you describe would not seem make sense for the Rectangular Marquee Tool for example.

As for having to restart creating the Selection you might be able to salvage meaningful existing parts in Quick Mask Mode.

Poly and magnetic lasso tools and also at times pen tool..Line just shoots across back to the begining and creates a selection

Double-clicking would cause the line to "shoot" back to the beginning and close the shape. Check the mouse settings in your computer preferences and see if you can slow down the double-click speed.
