Set "place linked" as default in photoshop

When using Illustrator or Indesign there is a very handy feature where, when a graphic or image is dragged and dropped into a file it is automatically linked. I'm wondering if there is a way to set this up for Photoshop? I recently built a webpage and didn't realize until the very end that all the files were embedded (only a one page site thank goodness)

Thanks

I’m not sure if there is a way to set Place Linked as a default for drag and drop import. What I did was make a habit out of the Place Linked drag-and-drop shortcut, which is to drag the file to Photoshop and drop it in the Photoshop document with the Option key held down (probably the Alt key in Windows). Now that I do that out of habit, it always places as a linked Smart Object.

If you want to submit a feature request to have a way to Place Linked by default during drag-and-drop, you can submit that under the Ideas tab in this Photoshop Ecosystem community.

The only other suggestion that I can think of is to set a custom keyboad shortcut to the File > Place linked command to make it quicker to use.
