Shape Properties Transform Issue

The "link shape width and height" option in the Properties Panel under Transform is not working for me. Whenever I click it, it won't stay activated to allow me to transform a shape while keeping its aspect ratio.

I'm running version 23.0.2 on Windows 10.

My pleasure. I just want to hear you say Yay! It's fixed! I think we are getting there.

Brushes backed up...good.

I am not sure if preferences can be lost between updates. I hope maybe someone else on the forms can help with that.

Did you look around in Photoshop to see if any of your brushes, styles actions etc. were gone before you dropped your prefs back in the settings folder?

This is the first time I've noticed it, so I'm gonna say yes, this is the only place I've observed it.

I exported my brushes successfully, so that'll be good to have for backup purposes.

Just for clarity—can preferences be lost between updates? Is exporting them the best way to preserve them? If so, should they be exported to a folder outside of the Photoshop folder? I find myself having to reset my workspace with bigger updates, and I was wondering what the best way to preserve something like that is.

Okay, so I tried resetting my preferences on exit again after copying my settings folder, but once again, when I copy my settings back into the Adobe Photoshop 2022 folder, it breaks the Shape Properties Transform scaling lock.

I really appreciate all your help and patience.

Have you found a resolution to the issue or were you able to find a workaround? I just wanted to check and make sure that resetting your preferences didn't cause any problems.

Sorry for the late reply. I haven't yet found a fix for the issue.

It was worth a try. Thanks for being willing!

Does this only happen when you are transforming a Shape?

The best way to figure out what is causing the problem is to eliminate one thing at a time.

Have you ever exported your brushes, styles, patterns, etc?

I tried it in 23, and you can select all the folders in a group and use the Export function in the flyout menu of the appropriate panel. Save them in the folder that shows up (which is the preset folder in your User presets), and then you can import them back into Photoshop. I don't think you can do it with Actions or Tool presets, but Brushes, Styles and Patterns are exportable. Even if you don't Reset your prefs, epxorting them and having them ready to import will save you a lot of time if you ever need them.

Before you put your preferences back in the settings folder, did you check to see if everything was gone or still there?

Still trying to help figure this out...

I think I have them backed up elsewhere? I'll be honest, I've always been a bit confused by how the brush, tool, keyboard shortcuts, and workspace backups work. And now, I'm just concerned that something in my backups is causing this bug.

I tried your suggestion to change the units, but it didn't have any effect on the bug.

I completely understand. Have you backed up your brushes, Styles, Patterns, etc.? If in the future you decide to reset your preferences, having eveything backed up would be helpful.

I am trying to compare your screen shot against my version of PS, and I was wondering if you have the same problem if  you change the unit of measurement to something other than pixels? If you haven't tried that, make the change and see if it makes a difference?

I'm a graphic designer, so brushes, tool preferences, swatches, styles, actions... I'm not totally sure how much is actually in there, but I'd really prefer not to lose something important that I need for my daily workflow.

What in your preferences do you need to keep?

It's still doing it in version 23.1! I wonder what it could be in my preferences that's breaking it.

Wow! If it fixed it before the preferences were restored, then something in your preferences is the culprit.

After you udate to 23.1, let us know if that fixes it?

So, I backed up and reset my preferences, and before I restored them, the reset fixed the transform error. However, when I copied my Preferences folder back to the Adobe Photoshop 2022 Settings folder, it reversed the fix and the "link shape width and height" option went back to not working properly. I will try updating to 23.1 to see if that works.
