Sky Replacement Error

When I try to use the sky replacement tool I sometimes get an error message simply stating that it won't work because of a "program error".  This disrupts my work flow and is very annoying.

I am running photoshop 23.4.1.   OS= Monterey 12.4

Can someone help me with this?

Best to restart a.s.a.p. after such message, IMO. I've had plenty crashes near such messages and suspect PS is corrupting itself plenty regularly, and/or fighting for GPU memory with other apps. I had a PS crash that also took out MS Edge which uses GP acceleration (or vice versa, but I was in PS at the time).

A couple of things to check:

1. Is your file in 8-bit color mode?

2. How large is your file?

I've seen Sky Replacement dump out on larger canvas size images and on 16 or 32-bit images.

My images are 8-bit and 8256 x 5504 px.

What are you system specs? Graphics card, VRAM, Available memory (RAM), Scratch disk space?
