Smart object alteration

Question

Hi!Im wondering if anyone know whether a smart object can be edited without have to open it and re save. I know it can be transformed, however I need to move the placement of some elements of the smart object. My smart object is "folder" which has 9 separate folders of products that have been masked out and have been retouched. these are all lined up in a row one product next to the other. As the imager is a work in progress, the spacing of these products have not been fully determined and I need to produce various options of spacing and arrangement of the products. I was hoping by converting the folder to a smart object i could lasso each product and move independently of the others, however even when i do this all the product moves, as if the lasso selection is being ignored and I'm move the whole group around. Does anyone know how this can be achieved?? thanks in advance

Hi!i actually just figured it out!originally i was lassoing the product and try to move object by dragging it around - however if you select the object and move it using the arrow keys, the layer can then be arranged without having to open and re save!

Hi,You can’t perform operations that alter pixel data—such as painting, dodging, burning, or cloning—directly to a Smart Object layer unless it is first converted into a regular layer, which will be rasterized. To perform operations that alter pixel data, you can edit the contents of a Smart Object, clone a new layer above the Smart Object layer, edit duplicates of the Smart Object, or create a new layer.Regards,Sahil
