Smart Object not opening

Hi guys. I have a 1GB 16Bit TIFF file. I convert the background layer to Smart Object and I get a duplicate of the same file instead of the Smart Object menu. What could be the problem?

    I mean PSB, but it doesnt matter, it happens on both.
