Smart object / puppet wrap not working correctly after latest update

I have a psd file- A placed as a smart object in another psd file B. In file B the smart object has a puppet wrap filetr applied. Both files have layer masks. If I go to file A and edit the mask and save the smart object does not update in file B.

The only way I can get it to update is disable the puppet wrap. So I need to thow the puttet warp away and reapply everytime I make an edit to the smart object.

Photoshop 21.2.4

Everything was working fine before the last 2 updates.

Help. How do I go back a few versions?
