Question

Smart object size doesn't match reality

I'm dragging a flat png onto my layered psd and even though they are both the same resolution, the dropped layer, now smart object is MUCH smaller than it should be. The percentage change is odd too.

If I open that png, select all, copy and paste to my layered psd... its all good. shows up exactly how it should.

So why is it so small if I drop the file instead? I'd like to retain the link to the orginal plust the file name. And just the ease and speed of adding that image.

Thanks for any insight.

Not equivalent to 72:300 by any chance?

Check your ppi figures again. Smart objects honor physical size, not pixel size. And physical size is determined by the ppi number.

This behavior is somewhat counter-intuitive for Photoshop users, but it was done this way for compatibility with vector applications like Illustrator.
