Smart Objects and when to rasterize them?

I'm using Puppet Warp on an image and it seems to only work when converting a layer to a Smart Object. I plan to create a series of layers and convert them to frames in the timeline to create an animation. Is there any reason to convert the layers/rasterize them at any point after making them into smart objects?

Thanks.

You can use Puppet Wrap on classic Layer - you don't need to rastrerize it!

When you convert any layer/layers to Smart Object you can easily adjust your Puppet Wrap later - this transformation acts as an effect with mask. You can try this.

Convert layer (layers) to smart object and adjust wrap with Pupper Wrap tool. - it's first frame

Copy your layer (CTRL+J) and click twice on Puppet Warp name shown in Layers panel for new layer. This way you can adjust transformation - and it's tyour second frame

Copy this layer as well (CTRL+J) and adjust transformation with Puppet Wrap (open it from Layers palette) - it's a new frame

repeat this step any time you need
