Question

Smart objects won't embed anymore, but library is also empty...

I have no clue why, but photoshop stopped embedding vectors as smart objects when I drag them into a file. Instead, it's treating them like a link, but the library is completely empty (zero files, none, nada, no folders). I can't possibly keep working like this because every time I open a file with vector smart objects, it's telling me I can't edit them because it can't find the link to them (the one that doesn't and has never existed, I have never in my life used PS libraries specifically to avoid this BS). Help?

Hi. By default, f you drag and drop files from the finder or explorer to Photoshop, that creates an embeded Smart object. If you drag and drop while pressing Option or Alt, that creates a linked Smart object. It's not working in that way?

No. I'm just copy/pasting out of illustrator or dragging and dropping - no keys - and it's apparently making them linked files.

Very strange. I can't reproduce this.

If you restore your preferences using this manual method does it work correctly?

If that doesn't solve it, you can quit Photoshop and put the Settings folder back.
