Smartobjects Filters on it don't get scaled !

Hi

we have a big issue: when scaling images with Smartobjects - the filters values don't scale together !

lets say we have a blure filter on a Smartobjects with value 5 and resize  the image to 15 % ( Scale Styles is on ) the image comes out totally blurred because the blure value still reminds on 5 !

Well this is a big thing because we resize nearly all image to the 100% size in the layout.

For now its over with Filters and Effects on Smartobjects !

any body else has this problem ?

Thank a Lot for answers

What does that mean?

If it's not the solution then it's a workaround:

Create a smart object to embed the complete Photoshop file, then resize.

The problem with creating a smart object of the whole file and resizing is that nested smart objects don't retain full resolution the way that first level smart objects do. Their resolution are based on whatever it is before being packaged into a smart object. I've tested this many times. Take a simple vector file and make 2 identical smart objects out of it within one PS file. Put one of them into a group, and make a smart object out of that group. So one of the vectors is nested within another smart object. Then res up the whole file considerably, and you will quickly see the nested resolution degrade rapidly, but not the first level smart object. This is not a workaround!

There is a place to choose "Scale Styles" on the image size window, but in my experience it doesn't scale the smart filters.

Hi Abambo
first the workaround works. If I put all layers inkl. the smart object ( Picture with USM and Camara RAW ) in to a new Smartobject and than scale to lets say 20% it works USM and the other Filters get scaled together.

We work on highres Pictures and place them in to the layout (Indesign) lets take an example the Image is placed with 20%

so what we do is open it and scale it to 20 % so that in the layout it will be 100%

Actually we use LinkOptimizer for that - nice tool.

But just to clarify - the issue we get also doing manually.

Would it help if you convert the Smart Object with blur filter as Smart Object, then resize?

Yes that works !

Seems like a Photoshop issue, moving it to the Photoshop forum
