SmartPress PDF Template Text not displaying in Photoshop

Hi,

I'm working on designing a photo calendar using a template from SmartPress.  The template is a PDF file.  When I open the template file on its own, I can see the text and safe-area grid lines on the pages, but when I open it in Photoshop I do not see them.

Any suggestions on how I can fix this situation?

I'm running Photoshop 2022 on a Mac.

The template is downloadable from here: Saddle Stitch Calendar 12" x 9" (2023) – PDF

Thank you!

This PDF uses Optional Content Groups (AKA: "Layers") which Photoshop doesn't understand.

Do you have Acrobat Pro? The "layers" (which aren't layers in the same sense as in Photoshop) would need to be flattened.

I don't have Acrobat Pro, but I guess I could subscribe to the trial version to complete this task.  Correct?
