Some options not working in "Select and Mask" Tool

Hello!

I just updated Photoshop CC 2018 and I noticed when I went to use the new Select and Mask Tool that both the "Onion Skin" and "On layers" options were not working.

The other ones, red, black, etc. all work but nothing for the Onion Skin and Layers.

Is there any way I can fix this?

Thank you very much for your time and hope you are having a great day.

best,

Rick

So when you use onion skin and on layers on the background copy, and add a mask, you are revealing the image underneath which in you case is the background layer. Because the two images are the same it looks as if nothing is happening.

Try turning the original background off or put another image in between them and you will see what I mean.

Hi

Are you by any chance working on masking a duplicate image layer with the original below it? Transparency would then show the original layer in the masked areas and look as if it is not working.

If not can you show a screenshot of your layers panel and the Select and Mask workspace

thank you very much Dave for taking the time to answer my question. I really appreciate it.

Im not very knowledgeable with Photoshop so I apologize for not understanding exactly what you said.

What I did was to duplicate the original layer and I worked on the layer copy.

This is what my screen looks like:

When I went into the Select and Mask Tool I was working on the "Background Copy" layer.

thanks again Dave!

best to you,

Rick
