Something for the Weekend - Part 175 - Building Bridges

Hi

Thanks to all who took part in the our Halloween challenge.

This weekend, I bring you a photo of a bridge in Glen Affric, Scotland which I snapped a few years ago. It is a beautiful part of the world, but a rather ugly concrete and steel structure supporting the bridge. Can you use your Photoshop skills to smarten it up with something more in keeping with the surroundings?

The “rules”:

* Anything goes, as long as it meets the forum rules on decency, copyright etc

* Anyone, and everyone, is welcome to have a go, whether you are a complete beginner or a Photoshop expert. This is not just for our forum "regulars".

* There are no prizes apart from the chance to practice, show off, or bring a bit of humour and fun. Don't be shy, join in and have a go!

* The starter image is made available for you to use in this forum challenge only.

To download the image below, hover over the image and click on the circle with the arrows at the top right. Then, when the image opens in its own window, right click and choose “Save Image As/Save Target As” (or similar depending on your browser).

When posting back your image – please use the blue reply button in this first post. If posting a comment on someone else’s entry then please use the grey reply button next to their image post.

Have fun

Dave

Click/RightClick to get closer, Click again to get a wee bit closer still

As soon as I saw it, I knew it had to bear the words that could be seen on at least one bridge in the old days, before the old monies were abandoned on Dreadful Day.

Based on memory (supported by roads.org.uk and Roader's Digest): 1970, the northern side of the first bridge across the new Durham motorway (A1 southbound), carrying the B1288 (to be replaced by A1231).

Have you also seen it, Dave?

Some of the other entries seem to confirm its being a (more) suitable warning on this side.

I've not seen that writing on a bridge Jacob. Maybe I was sleepdriving 🙂

Dave, It just occurred to me: how could anyone be sleepdriving at the time I saw that writing?

It happened In the Summertime, even at the time it peaked as could be heard from every car radio; so it could be all round you at traffic lights through the open windows.

Change in seasons.

I decided to work with Lab Color.

It’s really a tribute to the late Norman Sanders.

It's lovely, K, and perfect timing. Norman would have celebrated his 95th birthday tomorrow had he not passed away last year on November 3.

I started out with so many mistakes, but it was fun just to play with something quick on a Friday evening.  giving myself a time limit helps to shrug off the things I wanted to change. Just go go go. (but don't look too closely)
Also, led me to a couple of great bridge design websites, including a fun hand-made bridge making video (grandpa amu wooden bridge).

That's much better Ko. The wood is far more in keeping with the surroundings. Nice job!

Haha. Who would have thought that a tartan short wrap would improve the look of the bridge 🙂

Well it's fall here and I like the colors, but it was warm enough to swim this week, so ....

The proportions are wrong but to match the bridge, she'd have to be so tiny that you couldn't see her. (This is my child. My child the acrobat)
