Strange color issues...

Just found this issue today. Using PS CC 2019, latest update. On Mojave, latest update.

So I was messing with a few images. Everything looked totally fine. I needed them for a website, so processed them up and saved them of as jpegs. Then later I wanted to make a larger image for a background for the website that was a collage of a number of images from the site. So I opened up the jpegs instead of the psd's due to the size of that many psd's being open at once might be a bit nuts...

Anyway, when I opened up the jpegs, from files that looked totally fine previously, the now looked crazy blown out colors. Everything had been set for Adobe RGB (1998) across the board, from the camera to the finished images. But jpegs that looked fine everywhere else that way, opening them into photoshop made them go crazy with the colors. Almost like the color was doubled up. I changed the color profile at that point to see what it did from Adobe RGB to just plain sRGB and they all looked significantly better in photoshop.

Saved things off again and looked at the images just in the previewer on the mac, as well as checking a few on the web after loading them to the website. The newly saved images looked kind of washed out, while the originals looked like they were supposed to. Just in Photoshop it's self did they look too saturated.

Any ideas with what this one could be???

D Fosse, you got me to think of it the right way. The images I was opening were saved for the web with the old "Save For Web (Legacy)" a while ago and it looks like the embed Color Profile was turned off at the time, hence the crazy colors when opening it up again in photoshop. lol, guess I should have waited until I wasn't half asleep after working for 17 hours to try and figure things out. lol. Thanks for the help.

Make sure color management policies are set to "Preserve Embedded Profiles", and that the file has an embedded profile. Then it doesn't matter which color space the file is in - it will always be handled correctly and displayed correctly in Photoshop. Color Settings are just defaults for new docs and missing profiles.

If it still doesn't display correctly, it's a defective/corrupt/wrong monitor profile.

I'm traveling without access to PS atm, but generally screenshots would help identify the problem.

    Hi Daniel E Lane

I have faced a similar issue in Windows 10. Upon searching for a solution I turned on 'Use Graphic Processor' from Photoshop>Edit>Preferences>Performance, which solved my problem. Just letting you know so your issue may get fix through this.
