it worked yesterday. i need to smudge an item, so i've created my path and set my smudge tools, but nothing happens when i try to stroke the path. if i smudge it manually it works, but it doesn't create the same effect, so i need to smudge on a path. what is happening? all of my settings are correct.

It seems when using the Stroke Path dialog the Smudge Tool stroke is actually using the Art History Brush Tool.

If instead of using the Stroke Path dialog, have the path active with the Smudge Tool selected, then pressing

the Enter key should stroke the path with the Smudge Tool.

Hi @victoriapersephone, I just tested it, and the smudge tool is working fine for me (Windows 10; Photoshop 25.0.0 Release). Can you show us a screenshot of your settings? Is your path rasterized? Are you starting with a shape layer? Did you try resetting the smudge tool? Just a bit more info and we'll see if we can figure out what's going on.

i've restarted multiple times and now this is happening when i try to stroke using smudge. this isn't the brush or thickness i selected, i literally have no idea wtf this is. if i smudge it manually it's fine but it doesn't create the effect i want. i've never rasterized the path before so i don't see why i'd need to do it now. this is a pasted layer of another element in the photograph that needs to be exaggerated and generally i go through this process with no issues. i have no idea how to reset the smudge tool, i didn't even know that was a thing.
