Suddenly transform > scale has a large rectangle

I have Photoshop CC 20.0.3 on a Mac Mojave 10.14.4.

I must have click the wrong button, because all of a sudden when I choose transform > scale, the layer is no longer centered in the transforming box, but off to the right. When this first happened, I thought that something must have been funny with my layer, but it's happened again on a perfectly normal image.

Correct answer Semaphoric

Maybe you have  an almost-but-not quite-transparent pixel somewhere on the layer.

Hi, could you post a screenshot of your desktop? So we can help you better.

Yes, that's "hidden" content. A single pixel at 1% opacity is all it takes. You can't see it, but the bounding box does.

Semaphoric and D Fosse are correct: When I selected the item, I had picked up some stray "invisible" content. Thanks, everyone!

Can you post a screen shot of you entire screen with the layer panels showing?
