For some reason im now getting the 'warning' meassage when trying to put a layer from one doc into another, both are using RGB and both are 8 Bit , is this a bug thats suddenly appeared as it was working perfectly fine in the previous attempt or is there a simple solution to rectify it.

They can't both be 8 bit if you get that message. You get this if you're pasting a 16 bit file into an 8 bit file or vice versa.

Not that it matters much. As long as you're aware of bit depths of the files and the implications of converting down to 8 bit - in other words, you know what you're doing - you can just ignore it. It's not a "warning", just information.

As you don’t seem to provide meaningful information (not even the text of the »warning«) that is impossible to tell.

Could you please post screenshots with the pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Layers, Options Bar, …) visible?
