Question

Text colour

How do I change my text colour. I tried highlighting it with the text tool but it just creates a new layer with new text.  For some reason my text isn't on a text later and instead like a background.

Hi!

There might be a couple of things going on here. Along with Derek's question above, could you let us know if: 1. Did you rasterize your text layer? Or 2. Did you use the Type Tool or the Type Mask Tool to create your text.

If the Type layer in the Layers panel has a large T in the center of it, then you still have text and we need to figure out why you can't select it. If it is not a large T, but looks like a transparent layer with colored text on it, then somehow it is no longer text and is probably not editable. Let us know what you have?

Yes I rasterised because I needed to rub part of a letter out, how do I change the colour now?

Hi!

There are a couple of ways you can work with this. The optimum would be to reconstruct the text layer so that if you need to change the text you have the ability. And you can also apply filters to text or use a Layer Mask and erase part of the text too. If you don't need to reconstruct the text layer, then just keep a reminder that if you always want to duplicate the layer as a back up--just in case.

If  you don't need to access the type, then you can use one of the tools like the Magic Wand tool to select the color of the text you want to change. Make sure that in the Options bar that Contiguous is NOT selected. That way everything that is the same color will be apart of the selection. If Contiguous is ON then only what is touching is selected.

Once you have your selection, then you can apply the new color. I would recommend that you add a new layer and use the Fill comand to add the color to that new layer, then use a layer mask to mask out anything that needs correcting.

Let us know if that works!

Michelle
