Hello fellow photoshoppers, I am a beginner and I was wondering if you could teach me how to get my photoshop text to look like the first attached image (making the text appear as if it were light running throughout) I had found a tutorial on google before and had success in creating something similar but I cannot find the page and I've forgotten what I had done. The videos on youtube did not work for me even when done step by step. Thank you. Attached are the youtube videos I have followed to no success. The rectangle does not disappear for me, and on my previous attempt the rectangle did move but you could see it in its full shape and not just making my text appear to me shiny.

The animated light effect can be achieved with a few layers, layer styles, and a frame animation using the following steps:

  1. Create your text (position it where you want it and increase the tracking to make the letters spread out a bit)
  2. Duplicate your text layer
  3. Select the original text layer and either set the type color or go to Layer > Layer Style > Color Overlay and set that to that maroon color (or whatever color you want)
  4. Select the duplicate text layer, go to Layer > Layer Style > Stroke and set it to black, the point size you want for the outline, and Center
  5. In the Layers panel with the stroked text selected, change the Fill to 0 (that will make it invisible but leave the stroke)
  6. Create a white X either as text (in a sans serif font) or draw 2 diagonally crossing white lines
  7. Place the X layer between the stroke layer (on top) and the solid text color layer (below)
  8. Move the X upward on the canvas above the text so that it doesn't show yet
  9. Open the Timeline (Window > Timeline)
  10. Use the Dropdown menu to display Create Frame Animation (if it is showing Create Video Animation)
  11. Click the Create Frame Animation button
  12. Below the frame that appears and to the left of the trash can, click on the "+" button
  13. Select the white X and move it down on the canvas below the text
  14. In the Timeline, click the button to left of the "+" button that is a circle with smaller circles fading out behind it
  15. In the Tween dialog that appears, enter the number of frames you want (probably 10-15)
  16. Click the play button to test it
  17. If you like it, go to File > Export > Save for Web (Legacy)
  18. Set it to GIF and save
