Text Tool in Photoshop (v20.0.7) stopped working

I cannot edit the text in all the documents I have created. This problem started during usual work. When I click in the text field only the checkbox and the escape box appear, but no editing possible. Even closing the document is only possible after escaping the text-tool

Solution found: Open an RGB image in Photoshop. The I-beam pointer will now display in non-RGB documents.

You can reset the Type Tool... Right click on T in the Option bar.

If this does not work, restart your computer and if that does not work, reset preferences.

Update: I do not see any cursor or highlight of marked text but I can edit blind (type, change colour or size). Something seems new: the buttons I did only know from the crop tool (see screenshot https://www.dropbox.com/s/s11qmf79ij2nc2v/Screenshot%202019-10-27%2021.00.54.png?dl=0)

Have you tried reinstalling Photoshop? Sometimes this procedure can solve the problem.
