(Latest Photoshop, MacOS)

Thanks for today's Photoshop update, Adobe, but there's still a problem with the Text tool.

Whenever I first launch Photoshop, I cannot select text, either with the Text tool, or with double-clicking on the text block with the pointer tool. I must first "re-set" the Text tool, by creating a new RGB document, grab the Text tool, click-drag a text block (it fills with Lorem Ipsum), close that new document (don't have to save it), then if I go into any subsequent document (either RGB or CMYK), the text tool works as it should, and I can select text, or I can make a block of text active if I click it with the pointer tool.

This is very annoying.

I've just tried here, opening PS and creating a CMYK document. No issues with text. This is v 20.0.6 on Windows 10.

Well thanks but I'm on a Mac.

I did some poking around. Apparently this issue was known since October of 2018 ( Cant Highlight Text ) .

So I found a solution being offered by a user on Page 3 of that thread:

"The only permanent solution seems to be to change the change the Drawing Mode from Advanced to Basic in the Advanced Settings of the Graphics Processor Settings in Photoshop preferences, Performance section."

I tested the solution and it seems to be working. I'm just not entirely certain what the performance sacrifice is (if any).

Sorry to hear about a bad experience with Photoshop's update, let us help make this right.

Could you please share Photoshop's Help > System Info dialog text here?

Also, please try try enabling "Legacy compositing" located in Photoshop's Preferences > Performance, then relaunch Photoshop and let us know if it helps.
