The Brush has the same function as the Eraser

Hello, my Problem is that my Brush suddenly has the same function as the Eraser and I didn´t changed anything. I tried to reset the Brush and all the tools but nothing helped. It would be very kind if anybody could help me with that Problem.

It would be useful to see the bottom of the toolbar panel while you're experiencing this issue. I've found that I run into issues with my brush tool when I'm working on a layer mask and switch into and out of viewing the mask as a rubylith (red overlay). It tends to switch the active foreground and background selection which causes me to either apply the brush or remove it inadvertently. A quick X command switches the foreground and background selection back to what I need. You didn't state if you were working with a layer mask - but if so, with your brush selected, check your foreground/background selection on your toolbar panel. Black will remove your brush strokes (or paint off) and white will apply them (or paint on).

I messed a bit with wacom settings... Windows and Wacom dont go along very well.

I had a problem with Windows Ink in wacom settings pen tab/cabritate tab/windows ink check box. I turned it off because it was making a lot of unwanted stuff with right click and so on. After that - eraser was the same as the brush and i couldnt change it in PS (pen pressure didnt work as well).

So i added PS to applications in the pen settings in wacom prefs, and set to USE Windows Ink in it. That solved the problem for me.


I see the other response fixed your problem, but it didnt help me. Its not easy to find Wacom related sollutions easy, so i hope this one can help someone as well.

Btw. I feel sorry for Adobe people fixing problems of other companies, but that just makes them better than the others.

Btw2. You guys should make a Cintiq-like tablet of your own - top notch, a perfect canvas for artists and not overpriced like Wacoms (a Cintiq stand costs up to 300 euro, a stand! A bit of metal!) Bought a strong Ergotron arm, in your face Wacom.

    Wild guess department: If you are using a Wacom tablet (the back end the pen is an eraser), is it possible that the fault lies in the Wacom driver or pen setting? Is the effect the same when you use a mouse?

    have you tried restarting the computer? How about resetting your preferences? Otherwise can we take a look at your layers panel in a screen capture?
