Question

The eraser paints when working in channels

Hi,

The eraser was working fine, but all of a sudden it started to paint. I'm working with a wacom tablet, but no difference when using the keyboard directly instead of the styliser eraser. The eraser works when working in layers but not when working in channels.
Greateful for guidence!

Hi Andrew

Check your foreground and background colours. When working in channels, the eraser will "paint" with the background colour.

Thanks for your reply Dave.
Now the eraser has the drawing colour and the paintbrush has a darker shade of the background colour, even though i have the background colour in the foreground and background colours. I'm new to working with channels.

Hi Andrew, just in case yours is not working correctly - try resetting the eraser tool

To do this, with the tool selected, click at the top left of the options bar - then on the cog then choose reset tool.

The correct behaviour in a pixel layer is for the tool to erase pixels on that layer (i.e. make them transparent) unless the layer is a background layer in which case it will paint with the current background colour.

A channel is just a grayscale (i.e. it goes from black to white it has no transparency).  The eraser tool used on a channel will paint with the current background colour
