Tile view doesn't show whole images

Under the Window, Arrange, Tile View does't show the whole image, but includes some random black surround. This just started happening recently and the only workaround is to resize and tile the images manually. In the attached screen shot the dark grey is the colour of the application frame, the black, I don't know where that comes from. The image can't be dragged into centre.

Anyone else experience this, and is annoyed by it?
