Question

Timelapse Auto Align small camera shift

Hi,

I've scanned through previous discussions on batch aligning images for time lapse. Most conversations are for projects where many images were taken in slightly different positions ie each frame is different and unique to the others.

My issue is different (and hopefully more simple) in that my camera is heavily secured on a tripod, and only moved once throughout the project due to the camera body having to be replaced due to malfunction. This resulted in the first 3000 images being slightly different to the next 7000 images.

For this reason I dont need to batch align all the frames to each other, I simply need to use the auto align feature to match Image number 2999 to Image number 3001 and then apply that "Transofrm Data" to Images 3002-10000.

Does anyone know of any tips on how to read and write that transform data and batch it?

Thanks

Mike

    Hi JJMack,

    Thanks for your tips.

What I really would like to do is just align two images - one image before the camera move, and one image after the camera move. From there I just want to apply the transform data i.e. scale, rotation and maybe perspective, to the remainder of the images.

What I don't want to do is force the application to compare every frame to every other frame.

    Thanks

    Michael

I think it is more like you want to align two sequences of images.  I'm concerned about the number of images.  Too many for layers in a Photoshop document.   If sequence before camera move is in good alignment and sequence after move is in good alignment.   I think with the many images you may be able to make two video time laps clips.   That you may be able to use some video editor to allign the two clips.  Phehape Photoshop basic video editing can do what you want to do.  I do not edit video I do not know what is possible eiting.  I would expect aligning would be possible

Try creating two clips for your timelapse and put each in a smart object, then use the move tool to align the two clips. You may not have to put the clips into smart objects, but you do want to make two separate clips, then move one of them.

Try menu File>Scripts>Load Files into a stack and its auto align option then do a center crop and create a frame animation. However PS only supports 8000 layers.

Perhaps Premier Pro may have some tool to align video clips frame contents.
