Too many fonts in the dropdown menu in Photoshop!

Why are there so many fonts in the menu in Photoshop? It looks like there is a font for every darn language on the planet. I have only used about 10 to 15 fonts in the 20+ years I've been using the computer. Also there doesn't seem to be a way to get rid of any of them. I went to the main font file on my PC and tried to delete some fonts, but Microsoft had a warning that this would effect performance. I had the option to hide the fonts and I hid a bunch of them and guess what? I went to notepad and the fonts were gone. I went to word and the fonts were gone. I went into Photoshop and they were still there. Is that not amazing? Oh well, does anybody know how to get rid of the fonts I don't want. Or do I just have to live with this?

Hi

Many of these come with your OS and cannot be deleted. What I do in Adobe applications is to make Favorites (click the star) of the typefaces I use, then it's a quick toggle to hide/show favorites from the Filter button.
