Transparent background not remaining when exporting a PNG

Why is Photoshop not retaining the transpart background when exporting a PNG. I am on version 22.5 (mac)

    I have CS6, but sn't there a setting where you have to check "Transparency" for the background?

    A Photoshop background layer does not support  transparency you can not have a visible Photoshop  Background layer  and save a png that will have any transparency.  A background layer visibility must  be off to be able to  save a Png with  transparency.  A Photoshop document is not required to have a Background layer.

      Have you tried resetting your Photoshop Preferences.  I don't think a bug that bad would be released by Adobe.
