Question

Trouble opening CR in Photoshop 2023. Wait, I'll explain.

Hello fellow digital artists!

I'm a dumdum looking for help.
I'm going to try to cut a very long story short. I literally switched from Photoshop CS5E to Photoshop 2023 yesterday and consequently also downloaded the ACR plugin.
Yikes! The 13-year age gap between the two softwares is surely being felt wholefully.

Alright. So for 13 years with the "old" PS, anytime I'd open an image file or a batch - of any format, this would automatically open the item(s) through CR, then I'd save directly or click "open" to take them to PS.

For some reason, I can't do it with PS 2023, other than the Camera Raw Filter once already loaded in PS.
Not easy doing a search with all those keywords and find my answer.
Can somebody please tell me if there's a way to work the "old school" way I've come to love so much but in the latest version please?
You'd make my life a ton easier!

Thanks in advance,
Sebastien

And if you want to open something other than JPEG/TIFFs (questionable why you'd do either):

The 'trick' is forcing ACR (not ACR as a filter) to open them as if they were raw (which they are not of course). You do this by selecting Format menu as Camera Raw. TIFFs, JPEGs, even PNGs etc, open in ACR.

Andrew, thank you, did not know that one. Does one get the jpeg subset, or the camera raw filter subset of tools?

This is mac only, so I'll try later.

It's ACR proper (not filter).

Hi

Raw files (e.g. NEF/CR2 etc) will automatically open in Camera Raw

Other files - if you want all TIFFs and JPEGs to open directly into camera raw, then go to Preferences > Camera Raw > File Handling > Jpeg and TIFF File Handling and set one or both to 'Automatically open all supported jpegs' (or TIFFs)
