Trouble with brushes.

My brushes are a mass of concentric circles with a defined edge. I've tried everything. Even cleaned the computer and reinstalled everything. The platform is macOS Monterey 12.2.1. The computer was the best in 2017. The photoshop which is currently installed is the latest. Here is the beast. This is, or rather, supposed to be a soft brush at 1% with no spacing or smoothing or any other brush tip shapes.

I'm an artist working with photography. I've been using photoshop since it started so around 30 years. This has me seriously stumped, depressed and getting desparate. I hope someone can help.
