trouble with Fill adjustment layer

I am using the quick selection tool to select areas to make Color fill mask for colorizing black and white photos. when I go to select the color that I want, in this case I want a green color for a wine bottle. I select green but then the color of the layer defaults to gray. How can I get it to stay on the color I select?

Hi

Go to image - mode and make it RGB. It sounds like you are in grayscale mode where you will not be able to use colour.
